Nuts
Shelled
Shelled mongongo is kernel stock of the nutritious nut of Schinziophyton rautanenii from southern African woodlands already removed from the hard shell for immediate cooking. Convenience is high; shelf life is shorter than sound in-shell lots if storage is warm. Taste target: rich, oily, and distinctive—traditional staple snack of San and other regional peoples. Ready for cooking such as southern African traditional foods and modern specialty exports in small volumes. Industrial shelling already applied the species pathway: hard shells cracked traditionally; kernels eaten roasted or pressed. Storage discipline: high oil—keep cool after shelling. Respect cultural food context; supply is wild or smallholder, not industrial orchard scale. Allergen: tree-nut style oilseed; specialty import. In comparison, a cultural staple nut of the Kalahari, not a supermarket bulk nut. Check packs for shell shards before serving children. Vacuum packs help but still deserve cool storage after opening.
