Core

The apple core is the fibrous central column with seed chambers—tough, seedy, and usually discarded after coring. It holds the fruit’s structure on the tree but adds little pleasant texture on the plate. Core with a dedicated corer or quarter and cut out the centre. Trimmings can go into scrap stock for jelly pectin with peels, then strained. Do not serve cores as a vegetable.
