Split Kernel
Split betel (areca) kernels are halved or broken pieces of the hard seed used when traditional preparation wants smaller fragments. Splitting is mechanical; there is no pesto-roast step. Pieces are for cultural processing and trade grades, not trail mix. A good split kernel is hard, dry, and graded as areca. A bad piece is insect-damaged, damp, or mixed with other seeds. Store dry and labelled. Do not cook these as if they were sweet almond splits.

Minerals

Graded split areca kernels entered formal market channels.
