Haden is an early Florida classic—rounded fruit with vivid crimson blush over yellow ground colour and aromatic yellow-orange flesh with moderate fibre. Flavour sits in the sweet resinous camp that many older Florida types share, richer than Tommy Atkins when fully tree-ripened. Fruit is showy on the tree and in fruit bowls. Historically the parent of many Florida cultivars; still grown for local markets and nostalgia more than long-haul bulk. Eat fresh when fragrant; fibre is present but acceptable if fruit is ripe. Gardeners in frost-free zones prize the colour display as much as the crop.
