Lapins is a late-season Canadian self-fertile sweet cherry with large, dark red-black fruit and notably crack-resistant skin for a dessert type. Flesh stays firm on long stems, packing well for export while flavour builds to rich sweet-tart balance when left to colour fully. Trees set heavily without a polliniser, which simplified modern high-density orchards. Use as a Bing alternative later in the season for fresh bowls, pitting for tarts, or freezing when surplus hits. The self-fertile habit made Lapins a parent and template for many newer cultivars. Slightly later ripening spreads labour beyond the Bing peak.
