Syrup
Dark Treacle
A tier
Dark treacle is used on some labels for a slightly milder or less branded black-treacle-style syrup—still cane-refinery dark, still bitter-sweet, sometimes a shade browner-red than the blackest tin. In practice many cooks treat it as black treacle. If the tin says dark not black, taste before you dump it into a pudding. Use it where you want colour and mineral bite without quite the ash of blackstrap. It is still a treacle, not golden syrup.
