Dried Shrimp Paste Block
A tier
Dried shrimp-paste block is the hard, dark, export-stable form sold across SE Asia under many names: slice, toast, crumble. It is drier and often saltier than a wet kapi tub. Use it when you need shelf life. Rehydrate or fry. A wet tub is easier for a smooth nam phrik.

History
Hard blocks were packed so shrimp paste could travel and keep in heat.
Diaspora groceries stocked the dried block as the default shrimp paste.
Wet kapi and dried blocks were both sold; recipes began to specify.
