Pear-shaped puffball is the common name for L. pyriforme—teardrop fruitbodies in troops on stumps and buried wood. Young flesh is white and edible with a soft, mild mushroom taste that browns into something more interesting in a hot pan. Size is one- or two-bite. Check every specimen’s interior colour. Great with garlic scapes and parsley. More reliable habitat cue (wood) than many ground puffballs, but not a free pass on ID.
