Calvatia gigantea
S tier
Calvatia gigantea is the giant puffball—football to beach-ball sized white spheres whose pure white interior slices like soft bread into steaks for frying. Flavour is mild, almost blank, so it takes butter, garlic, and browning eagerly. Only solid snow-white gleba is edible; any yellowing means spores forming—discard. Found in grasslands and field edges in late summer. One specimen can feed a crowd. Not cultivable easily at scale; wild seasonal luxury when correctly identified.
