Fruit
Redhaven
S tier
Redhaven is a mid-early yellow freestone that reset quality expectations after mid-century—medium-large fruit, bright red over gold skin, and melting flesh with balanced sweet-tart flavour. Trees are productive and relatively hardy for peach, which helped backyard and commercial growers in cooler margins of peach country. Flesh colours fully yellow with little red pigment bleeding. A dual-purpose favourite: excellent fresh and reliable for freezing and jam. Often the first truly good freestone of the local season in many northern districts. Pick for background colour change and slight give; solid red blush alone can mislead.
