Fruit
O'Henry
A tier
O'Henry is a late yellow freestone with large, highly coloured red fruit and firm flesh that hangs well toward the end of the peach calendar. Flavour is sweet and full when allowed to mature on the tree; commercial picks can taste only average if taken hard for shipping. Attractive red skin made it a favourite for late retail displays. Extends pie and fresh-peach season after midsummer peaks. Good for slicing onto cakes and for freezing late surplus. Requires enough heat units—weak seasons leave fruit large but bland. Check aroma at the stem cavity before buying late fruit.

History
Grant Merrill’s California breeding programme introduced O'Henry for late coloured freestones.
California and similar climates planted O'Henry to stretch the fresh peach season.
O'Henry became a named late peach in produce ads and U-pick marketing.
Later club varieties competed, yet O'Henry stayed in many commercial mixes.
