Smoked Paprika
A tier
Smoked paprika is the generic trade name for pimentón-style powders dried with wood smoke—often Spanish, sometimes from other origins. Quality ranges from true oak-smoked PDO tins to lightly smoked commodity powder. Colour is deep; aroma should read clean smoke and sweet pepper, not ashtray. Use for rubs, roasted vegetables, and vegetarian “bacon” notes. If a recipe says Spanish smoked, prefer labelled pimentón; if it says only smoked paprika, any good smoky jar works.
