Leveller is an old yellow-green dessert gooseberry from British show and garden culture—large berries when well grown, sweetish when fully ripe, and prized historically for exhibition size. Flavour is richer than pure culinary greens at peak. Thorns and mildew pressure are period-typical. Aim for ripe dessert eating; thin fruit for size if showing. Jam still works from firmer picks. Heritage growers trade scionwood carefully. Not the easiest modern garden choice but excellent flavour history.
