Invicta is a modern mildew-resistant culinary gooseberry—vigorous, heavily cropping pale green fruit that stays sharp for jam and fools even as berries size up. Not the sweetest raw dessert type; brilliance is processing reliability and disease tolerance. Thorns still present. Pick slightly underripe for jam set and colour; leave some longer for milder sauce. Freezes well topped and tailed. UK and European gardens adopted it as a default reliable bush. Prune to open the centre for air.
