Diluted Carrier Blend
B tier
Diluted ethyl vanillin on maltodextrin, sugar, or a liquid carrier is a kitchen- or premix-safe way to add the note without micro-weighing crystals. Strength varies wildly between brands—some are 1%, some are 10%. Smell the headspace; if it punches like neat crystal, treat it as such. It will add bulk and sometimes sweetness from the carrier. Useless for a flavourist building a formula from scratch; useful in a bakery premix that must dump a kilo bag. Store it as a flavour, not as a flour.

History
Dry-on-carrier ethyl vanillin let bakeries dump vanilla into a premix without a milligram scale.
Retail "vanilla powder" sometimes hid diluted ethyl vanillin on sugar.
Industrial 1% and 5% triturations became catalogue items.
Carrier blends remained the safest warehouse form for non-flavourist staff.
