Lichen-Derived D3
A tier
Lichen-derived D3 is cholecalciferol from lichen sterols, produced so a vegan label can still say vitamin D3 rather than D2. Plant milks, vegan spreads, and supplement capsules that refuse lanolin specify it. Chemistry at the vitamin level is the same molecule; the farm is a lichen, not a sheep. Supply is smaller and price is higher. Stability still depends on the beadlet or oil, not on the lichen story. If a cheap "vegan D3" smells strange or assays low, the carrier or the claim is tired. Use it when the pack must be vegan; do not expect a different nutrition number.

History
Commercial lichen D3 launched to give vegans a true cholecalciferol option.
Plant-milk brands switched from D2 or lanolin D3 to lichen D3 for vegan claims.
Supplement aisles filled with lichen-D3 capsules at a premium to lanolin.
Lichen D3 remained a constrained, premium feedstock beside huge lanolin capacity.
