Hale's Best
A tier
Hale's Best is a historic American netted muskmelon with oval fruit, thick orange flesh, and a sweet aroma that defined mid-century market cantaloupes. Several strains (Jumbo, 36, 45) shared the name family; all aim at shippable netted melons with classic musk flavour. Flesh is deep salmon-orange when ripe, with a seed cavity of moderate size. Excellent chilled wedges, fruit salads, and blender drinks. Older open-pollinated Hale's Best lines can outflavour bland modern shippers if vine-ripened. Slip from the vine when the stem scar is clean and netting full.
