Indian Pale Lager
Indian Pale Lager (IPL) is a craft hybrid: cold-fermented lager cleanliness with assertive hop aroma and bitterness inspired by IPA. Colour is usually pale; hop character can be citrus, pine, or tropical depending on variety, while esters stay low. Cook carefully—hop resins concentrate when reduced. Better as a pairing beer or late splash than as a long braise liquid. Choose milder IPLs for cheese sauces if you must cook with one.
