Fruit
Zutano
B tier
Zutano is a shiny green, pear-shaped early avocado with light-coloured, lower-oil flesh that can taste watery next to Hass. Skin is thin and glossy; trees are used as pollinisers in Hass blocks as much as for premium fruit. Cold hardiness edges help in cooler avocado margins. Acceptable for early season needs and smoothies where richness is secondary. Many growers keep Zutano for bloom overlap rather than peak eating quality. Fully soft fruit is better than hard pale picks that never develop nuttiness.

History
A Fallbrook, California seedling became the Zutano cultivar.
Zutano spread as an early green variety and orchard polliniser.
Hass orchards retained Zutano rows for type-B flowering complementarity.
Zutano fruit stayed secondary while its polliniser role remained useful.
