Cherry

A tier

Cherry tomatoes are small, round (or slightly oval) fruits bred for snacking sweetness, high skin-to-flesh ratio, and burst texture. Sugar levels often exceed large slicers; acid stays bright so they read candy-like when fully ripe. Colours span red, yellow, orange, and black-purple; trusses may be sold whole. Halve into salads, blister in a hot pan with oil and garlic, or roast until collapsed for pasta. Whole cherries roast well on the vine for presentation. Their skins are relatively tough—fine for most cooking, slightly noticeable in ultra-fine sauces.
