Torbiscal
S tier
Torbiscal is a synthetic Iberian pig line developed in Spain by combining selected Iberian strains to improve growth, maternal ability, and commercial reliability while retaining Iberian meat and fat quality. Animals remain within the Ibérico genetic sphere and can produce well-marbled pork and curing hams under regulated purity and finishing classifications, often with better productivity than some pure traditional strains. Used in pedigree and crossbreeding programmes for Ibérico production, Torbiscal balances dehesa-adapted flavour traits with modern herd performance. Fresh cuts and cured products follow Spanish Ibérico grading by breed percentage and diet (bellota, recebo, cebo) rather than line name alone.

History
Spanish researchers began structured improvement of Iberian pigs to support post-war meat and ham production.
Composite Iberian lines were formed from traditional strains to raise prolificacy and growth without abandoning Iberian type.
The Torbiscal line was consolidated as a recognised synthetic Iberian population for breeding centres.
Torbiscal genetics spread through purebred and crossbred Ibérico systems in Extremadura and Castile.
National Ibérico quality legislation framed how Torbiscal purebreds and crosses could be labelled by purity and feed.
Updated Ibérico norms continued to include approved Iberian lines such as Torbiscal within controlled production.
