Large White
D tier
Large White is the classic English white pig—erect ears, pink skin, and a long, deep body—bred as the global archetype of efficient lean pork. It combines strong maternal traits with solid growth and carcass length ideal for bacon sides, while muscle is firm and pale with controlled fat cover under modern finishing. Culinary impact is mainly through mainstream fresh pork and cured products rather than niche branding: roasts, chops, gammon, streaky and back bacon, and industrial sausage trim. Purebred and Large White–Landrace sows dominate commercial hybrid production from Europe to Asia and the Americas.
