Nuts
Stuart
A tier
Stuart is an old commercial workhorse pecan still recognised across the Southeast for reliable production and familiar sweet kernel flavour. Nuts are medium-large with a shell thicker than true paper-shell show types, which helps storage but asks more of the cracker. Kernel taste is classic Southern pecan—buttery, mild-sweet, excellent in pies and candies even when halves are not gift-tin perfect. Stuart stock often appears in mixed commercial packs and older orchard districts. Look for plump meats without mould or rancid oil smell. It is less of a “show nut” than Desirable or Gloria Grande but remains a kitchen favourite for everyday baking volume. Toast pieces for salads; reserve cleaner halves for topping. A dependable cultivar name when you want tradition more than novelty.
