Fruit
Mauritius
A tier
Mauritius is an early-season lychee cultivar grown widely in South Africa, Israel, Australia, and other export regions—medium-large fruit, good colour, and reliable commercial performance. Flesh is sweet and aromatic with a moderate seed. It often opens export windows before later Chinese premium types arrive. Excellent for early-market fresh packs and juice blends. Quality hinges on harvest colour and cold chain; pale early picks taste flat. Named for association with Indian Ocean production histories more than a single island monopoly today.
