Santiam is an Oregon hazelnut cultivar from modern Pacific Northwest breeding, grown for commercial kernel supply with classic sweet, aromatic roasting character. Named for the Santiam region of Oregon’s hazelnut landscape, it joins Jefferson and Yamhill as part of the newer orchard generation. Cool storage and recent harvest still decide whether the bag tastes premium or paint-like. Pale roast, rub skins for pastry, freeze surplus. Major tree-nut allergen handling applies. Use in baking, snacks, and confectionery like other quality filberts. Compared with Turkish Tombul prestige export, Santiam is an Oregon supply story first. Sample before large paste or oil projects.
