Daviana
B tier
Daviana is a hazelnut cultivar long used as a pollenizer in commercial orchards, especially in older Pacific Northwest systems, while still producing usable kernels. In the kitchen it is classic sweet hazelnut when fresh—roast carefully for aroma, freeze surplus, and judge the bag by smell rather than by the pollenizer role alone. Major tree-nut allergen rules apply. Retail bags may not always print Daviana, but named lots help track orchard mix. Use for baking and snacks like other filberts. Compared with large main-crop types such as Barcelona or Ennis, Daviana’s fame is more agronomic than garnish-size. Sort shell grit carefully after cracking.
