Nuts
Barcelona
A tier
Barcelona is a classic large-kernel hazelnut that built much of the early Oregon filbert industry in the United States. Meats are substantial for snacks and baking, with sweet aroma when roasted carefully. Fresh Barcelona should smell clean and nutty; warm storage turns the oil paint-like like any other hazelnut. The name stuck in Pacific Northwest orchard history more than as a claim of Spanish origin for every bag. Roast pale, rub skins for pastry, freeze surplus. Use in cakes, cookies, snacks, and spreads. Major tree-nut allergen rules apply. Compared with modern Oregon releases such as Yamhill or Jefferson, Barcelona is the traditional large-nut benchmark older orchards and some packs still reference. Sample before large butter batches.
