English Cucumber

Vegetable

English Cucumber

S tier

English cucumbers are long, slender, usually greenhouse-grown fruits with thin dark-green skin, minimal seeds, and mild flesh marketed shrink-wrapped to protect the delicate rind. Bitter-free breeding and parthenocarpic set made them the default sandwich and sushi cucumber in many temperate markets. Flavour is clean and watery-green rather than intensely “garden cucumber.” Slice with skin on for salads, ribbons, and tea sandwiches. No peeling required if unwaxed. Ends can taste more vegetal—taste before composing delicate dishes. Keep wrapped until use to reduce shrivel.
