Sudan Rume

S tier

Sudan Rume (also Rume Sudan) is a wild-derived Coffea arabica accession from the Ethiopia–Sudan border region, conserved in research collections and prized as a parent for cup quality in modern breeding. Pure Sudan Rume is tall, relatively low yielding, and highly regarded for floral, complex, and tea-like specialty cups. It appears in F1 hybrid programmes and small specialty plantings rather than bulk commodity acreage. Geneticists value its contribution to flavour potential; farmers treat pure stands as high-maintenance, high-reward cultivars needing altitude, nutrition, and careful processing.
