Marsellesa

Beverage

Marsellesa

C tier

Marsellesa is a Sarchimor-derived Coffea arabica selection advanced by CIRAD and partners for compact growth, high productivity, coffee leaf rust resistance, and improved cup quality relative to older resistant lines. It is used both as a commercial cultivar and as a parent in F1 hybrid breeding. Plants suit intensive systems and renovation plantings in Central America and beyond. Well-processed Marsellesa can show sweet, clean cups with moderate acidity, making it attractive where farms need rust resilience without fully abandoning specialty market access.

History

PT

CIFC Sarchimor breeding established the Villa Sarchi × Timor Hybrid foundation for later selections.

FR

CIRAD selected superior Sarchimor progenies for agronomy and cup under multi-site trials.

Marsellesa was identified and stabilised as a high-performing Sarchimor selection.

Commercial release and nursery multiplication expanded Marsellesa plantings in Central America.

Marsellesa entered hybrid parent pools and climate-adaptation demonstration plots.

Farms continued Marsellesa for rust management with better cup prospects than early Catimors.
