Maragogipe (also Maragogype) is a natural Typica mutation famous for exceptionally large seeds, often called elephant beans. First noted in Bahia, Brazil, it produces lower yields than modern hybrids but is valued for distinctive bean size and a mild, often floral or tea-like cup when well processed. The variety is a parent of Pacamara and appears in small specialty plantings worldwide. Plants are relatively vigorous with large leaves and fruit, yet commercial acreage remains limited because productivity and disease susceptibility compare poorly with denser high-yield cultivars.
