Laurina
C tier
Laurina, also known as Bourbon Pointu, is a natural dwarf mutation of Bourbon from the island of Réunion, notable for elongated pointed beans and naturally low caffeine content. The compact plant and distinctive seed shape set it apart from standard Bourbon, while cup quality can be sweet, delicate, and finely aromatic. Commercial production is limited by lower vigour and yield, but specialty estates in Réunion, Brazil, and elsewhere cultivate Laurina for premium low-caffeine arabica experiences without industrial decaffeination. Careful roasting preserves its subtle floral and citrus character.

History
A pointed-bean dwarf Bourbon mutation was known on Bourbon Island (Réunion) as Bourbon Pointu or Laurina.
Laurina was described scientifically and recognised for lower caffeine among cultivated arabica types.
Germplasm collections conserved Laurina while commercial acreage remained small outside Réunion.
Revival projects re-established Bourbon Pointu for specialty export and island identity coffees.
Specialty farms in Latin America and beyond planted Laurina for naturally low-caffeine premium lots.
