H3 Hybrid
B tier
H3 Hybrid is an F1 Coffea arabica hybrid from CIRAD and partner breeding, typically described as Caturra crossed with an Ethiopian landrace accession, selected for high cup quality, yield, and improved resilience relative to pure traditional cultivars. Like other F1s, it expresses hybrid vigour in the first generation and requires controlled seed or plant supply to maintain performance. H3 is positioned for specialty-leaning commercial production where farms want elevated sensory potential with more modern agronomy than heirloom-only blocks. Disease resistance is generally stronger than pure Caturra but programme documentation should be checked by region, as F1 portfolios differ in rust and CBD traits.

History
CIRAD expanded F1 arabica work beyond single resistant parents to include Ethiopian quality landraces.
Caturra × Ethiopian accession crosses were evaluated for cup, yield, and plant architecture.
H3 was advanced as a promising hybrid line within Central American and partner trials.
Multi-site comparisons placed H3 among leading F1 candidates for specialty-commercial systems.
Limited commercial release and demonstration plots introduced H3 to progressive farms and nurseries.
H3 continued in hybrid catalogues alongside H1 (Centroamericano), Starmaya, and related F1s.
