H1 Hybrid
C tier
H1 Hybrid is the breeding designation for the F1 arabica cross T5296 (Sarchimor) × Rume Sudan, commercially known as Centroamericano. It was developed to unite coffee leaf rust resistance and high yield from the Sarchimor parent with the cup complexity of the Ethiopian landrace Rume Sudan. As a first-generation hybrid, H1 shows strong heterosis—vigour, productivity, and often elevated cup scores—provided farmers plant true F1 seedlings from controlled production. It is used in Central American renovation and climate programmes and marketed either as H1 or Centroamericano depending on nursery and buyer language.
Also known as: H1 / Centroamericano, H1 Hybrid

History
CIRAD formalised F1 arabica hybrid strategies pairing resistant and high-quality parents.
T5296 was selected as a leading Sarchimor parent for hybrid crosses.
T5296 × Rume Sudan (H1) trials confirmed yield, rust resistance, and competitive sensory scores.
H1 entered commercial channels under the Centroamericano name for farm planting.
World Coffee Research multi-country trials validated H1 performance across altitudes.
H1 / Centroamericano remained a flagship F1 option where hybrid nurseries operated.
