Brooks is an early California sweet cherry that opens the domestic season with large, firm, mahogany fruit before Northwest Bing peaks. Flavour is sweet with moderate acid—less complex than peak mid-season fruit but a welcome first real cherry after winter storage fruit. Heat-adapted orchards in the Central Valley push Brooks to market when demand is highest and prices strong. Eat fresh as soon as colour and sugar allow; early fruit still ships well because flesh holds. Useful in mixed retail displays announcing cherry season. Not the deepest flavour cultivar later in summer, but timing is its commercial superpower.
