Murray Grey is an Australian polled beef breed that arose from grey calves in Shorthorn–Angus matings on the upper Murray River, later fixed as a silver-grey type with dark skin and quiet temperament. Cattle combine early maturity and marbling tendency from British ancestors with solid growth and good mothering, suiting temperate pasture and feedlot finish. Culinary positioning is premium everyday and restaurant beef: consistent marbling, tenderness, and mild flavour that perform well under MSA eating-quality scoring. Murray Greys are also used in crossbreeding programs where hide colour, polled status, and carcass quality are valued in export and domestic markets.

History
Grey calves appeared in a Shorthorn herd mated to an Angus bull on the Thologolong property near the Murray River in New South Wales–Victoria border country.
Local breeders retained and interbred grey stock, developing a consistent silver-grey polled type.
The Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society was formed and a herd book opened for the emerging breed.
Murray Greys expanded rapidly in Australian commercial herds and began export of genetics overseas.
North American registries and seedstock herds established Murray Grey cattle for temperate beef production.
