Mirandesa
A tier
Mirandesa is a chestnut-brown Portuguese beef breed from the Terra de Miranda region of north-eastern Portugal, near the Spanish border. Cattle are medium framed and hardy on mountain and plateau pasture; beef is fine grained, moderately marbled when well finished, and valued for a clean, aromatic flavour under Portuguese PDO quality schemes for traditional carnes. The breed supports smallholder and extensive systems in Trás-os-Montes and is marketed as a regional specialty for roasting and grilling. Conservation of pure Mirandesa genetics is linked to rural development and protected designation programmes.
