Meat
Lincoln Red
C tier
Lincoln Red is an English beef breed from Lincolnshire, developed from local red Shorthorn-type cattle into a deep cherry-red, early-maturing meat animal. It produces well-fleshed carcasses with good marbling potential and a classic British beef flavour suited to grass finishing and traditional roasting. Once widely farmed across eastern England, pure Lincoln Reds became scarcer as continental breeds entered commercial herds, but pedigree and commercial lines continue to supply specialty and suckler systems. The beef is used for steaks, joints, and mince with reliable everyday eating quality.

History
Red cattle of the Lincolnshire fens and wolds were improved within the broader English Shorthorn complex.
Breeders in Lincolnshire selected a distinct deep-red, beefy type later known as Lincoln Red.
The Lincoln Red Cattle Society was established and a herd book formalised breed standards.
Lincoln Reds were promoted for wartime and post-war beef production on eastern English farms.
Continental sires reduced purebred numbers, though Lincoln Red genetics persisted in commercial crosses.
Rare-breed and native-beef initiatives supported remaining Lincoln Red herds and branded beef.
