Kangyuan
C tier
Kangyuan is a Chinese improved beef cattle type associated with northern and central breeding programmes that combined local yellow cattle with imported European beef genetics for greater frame size, muscling, and growth rate. Beef is typically lean to moderately marbled with a firm texture and clean beef flavour when finished on mixed forage, crop by-products, and grain, suiting hot-pot, stir-fry, and braising styles common in Chinese cuisine. As China expanded domestic beef production, improved types such as Kangyuan supported commercial feedlots and crossbreeding of native yellow cattle. Availability is mainly domestic, with carcass quality aimed at modern retail and food-service specifications rather than heritage niche markets alone.

History
State livestock institutes began upgrading Chinese yellow cattle with European beef breeds for meat production.
Regional breeding centres developed improved dual and beef types later associated with names such as Kangyuan.
Open economic reforms accelerated import of Charolais, Simmental, and other sires into Chinese beef programmes.
Commercial feedlot expansion increased demand for improved beef cattle with higher dressing percentages.
National beef industry plans promoted improved breeds and hybrids for domestic high-quality beef supply.
Continued selection and crossbreeding refined Kangyuan-type cattle for growth, carcass yield, and market finishing.
