Boran is an East African zebu beef breed developed mainly in Kenya and Ethiopia from indigenous cattle of the Borana pastoralists. It combines heat and tick tolerance with good fertility and carcass quality for tropical systems, producing lean, flavourful beef suited to pastoral and ranch finishing. In African and some international markets Boran and Boran-cross cattle supply both local consumption and export-oriented ranch beef. Culinary character is typically lean and robust, responding well to grilling, stewing, and dry-heat cooking of better-finished animals.
