Ya Li is a Chinese white pear type (often grouped with Asian pears in Western trade) with elongated necked shape, green-yellow smooth skin, and crisp, mildly sweet, very juicy flesh. It leans closer to some Pyrus × bretschneideri white-pear traditions than to round russet nashi, yet markets shelf it beside Asian pears. Flavour is refreshing and light with subtle floral notes when cold. Classic in Chinese fruit plates and gift boxes; also excellent in cold salads. Stores well; flavour can improve after a short chill. Neck bruises if packed tightly—look for smooth, unrubbed skin.
