Fruit
Shinko
A tier
Shinko is a late russet Asian pear with brown skin, fine sweet flesh, and notably good fire-blight tolerance for a quality nashi—valuable in regions where that bacterial disease limits pear growing. Fruit is medium-large, juicy, and aromatic without the extreme perfume of Hosui. Stores well into the colder months under refrigeration. A practical premium cultivar for disease-pressure districts and for extending the Asian-pear calendar. Fresh eating is the main use; texture holds for gift boxes. Pollination and thinning still matter for size.

History
Japanese breeding produced Shinko as a late quality russet nashi.
Western growers adopted Shinko partly for improved fire-blight field tolerance.
Extension recommendations listed Shinko for commercial and backyard Asian pears.
Shinko remained a go-to late russet where disease pressure shapes cultivar choice.
