Fruit
Niitaka
A tier
Niitaka is a very large late russet Asian pear—brown skin, coarse-sweet flesh, and impressive size that can intimidate in a fruit bowl. Flavour is pleasant and mild-sweet rather than highly aromatic; the selling points are mass, juice, and long keeping under cold storage. Texture stays firm for weeks when handled well. Chosen for gift fruit in East Asia and for growers who want late large pears. Slice for sharing; one fruit can serve several people. Slightly coarser grit than Kosui is normal at this size class.
