Hosui is a russet-bronze midseason Asian pear with rich, highly aromatic flesh, abundant juice, and a sweet finish that many tasters rank at the top of commercial nashi. Fruit is medium-large and slightly flattened-round; the rough brown skin hides tender, cream-white flesh. Overcropping or weak sun dulls the perfume—quality fruit tastes almost tropical-honey under the crisp texture. A premium fresh cultivar for specialty markets and restaurants. Pair with sharp cheese or ginger; juice runs on the board when ripe. More flavour depth than Kosui for many eaters, with slightly coarser grit if overmature.
