Fruit
Atago
A tier
Atago is a very large late Japanese russet pear with brown skin, mild sweet flesh, and heavy fruit that can exceed many dessert apples in diameter. Flavour is gentle and juicy rather than intensely aromatic; the category appeal is size, late harvest, and storage. Trees need strong limb management—fruit weight is serious. Popular for gift-grade large fruit and for markets that equate bulk with value. Slice for sharing platters; not the most complex solo tasting pear. Keep cold and handle bottoms carefully to avoid pressure bruises on the large surface.
