Meat
Nepali Yak
A tier
Nepali yak herds occupy high Himalayan districts—Solukhumbu, Dolpa, and other mountain zones—where Sherpa and related communities keep animals for caravans, dairy, fibre, and meat. Hybrids with cattle are common at lower elevations. Meat appears in mountain stews, dried strips for trekking, and festival dishes. Flavour is lean highland red meat; supply is local and seasonal. Tourism has occasionally increased demand for yak burgers in gateway towns.
