Touriga Nacional

Beverage

Touriga Nacional

Touriga Nacional is Portugal’s premier red grape—dense colour, violet, blackcurrant, and firm tannins—central to Douro table wines and Port blends, and increasingly a solo star in Dão and beyond. Low yields and intense aromatics give concentrated wines that still carry floral lift. Use for rich beef and game braises, chocolate-chile mole-adjacent sauces, and reductions that need backbone. Young Touriga can be stern; cook with fat and time, or choose a blend where Touriga is part of a softer ensemble.
