Touriga Franca
Touriga Franca (once often written Touriga Francesa) is a Douro workhorse blender—floral perfume, red and black berries, and slightly softer tannins than Touriga Nacional—adding elegance and aroma to Port and dry Douro reds. It ripens more reliably in many sites and cushions denser partners in the blend. Varietal or Franca-led bottles suit medium braises, grilled meats, and herb sauces where full Nacional power would dominate. Reduce to concentrate floral fruit, then finish with stock so the sauce stays supple.

History
Touriga Franca spread through the Douro as a complementary partner to Touriga Nacional.
Port house blending practice relied on Franca for perfume and consistent ripening.
Dry Douro and table-wine projects bottled higher Touriga Franca percentages and varietals.
