Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise
Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is a white vin doux naturel from Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains grown on the terracotta and limestone slopes around Beaumes-de-Venise in the southern Rhône. Fortification freezes fermentation early, locking grape, orange blossom, and peach perfume at moderate sweetness and fresh acidity. The wine is typically enjoyed young for floral lift rather than long oxidative ageing. Chill as an aperitif or pour with fruit tarts, lemon desserts, and lightly spicy Asian dishes. In cooking, use late additions to fruit soups, sorbets, and cream desserts so the Muscat aromatics survive; hard boiling strips the perfume quickly.
