LBV Port
Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port comes from a single year, aged in wood about four to six years before bottling—longer than Vintage, shorter than aged tawnies. It offers vintage-year identity with earlier drinkability: deep colour, ripe dark fruit, chocolate, and spice, often ready without decades of cellaring. Traditional unfiltered LBV may throw sediment; modern filtered LBV is more approachable and stable after opening than true Vintage. LBV is a practical “special Port” for Stilton, chocolate desserts, and richer game sauces without Vintage prices or wait times. Use in reductions as you would a good ruby reserve, with more structure and year character; decant unfiltered bottles.
